Summer Truck Maintenance Checklist
No Comments

Summer in the UAE is the hardest season your trucks will face all year. Ambient temperatures above 45°C, long highway runs, and daily loading cycles push every system in a commercial vehicle to its limits. The fleets that come out of summer without breakdowns are not lucky; they prepared before the heat peaked.

If your trucks are already on the road in June, it is not too late. Run through this checklist now and book anything that needs professional attention before a breakdown does it for you.

1. Cooling System

This is the most critical system to check before and during the summer. An overheating engine on a Dubai highway at noon is not just expensive; it puts drivers at risk.

Check:

  • Coolant level and concentration UAE heat requires the correct antifreeze-to-water ratio, even in summer.r
  • Radiator for blockages, leaks, or corrosion
  • Radiator cap pressure seal: a worn cap causes coolant loss under heat pressure
  • Coolant hoses for cracks, swelling, or soft spots
  • Fan belt tension and condition

If your coolant has not been flushed in the last 12 months, do it now. Old coolant loses its heat-transfer efficiency exactly when you need it most.

2. Engine Oil

Heat thins engine oil more quickly than under normal operating conditions. Running the engine with degraded oil during the summer in the UAE significantly accelerates engine wear.

Check:

  • Oil level and colour: dark, gritty oil needs an immediate change
  • Oil viscosity grade: confirm it is rated for high-temperature operation
  • Last service date and mileage: if you are within 2,000 km of your next service interval, bring it forward

For Qingling trucks, manufacturer-specified oil grades and service intervals are listed in your vehicle’s maintenance plan, downloadable from our Qingling service page.

3. Braking System

Brakes work harder in summer for two reasons: heat reduces braking efficiency, and traffic in Dubai’s industrial zones means more frequent, heavier braking on loaded trucks.

Check:

  • Brake pad thickness: replace if below minimum spec
  • Brake fluid level and condition, moisture contamination lowers the boiling point, and causes fade under heavy use
  • Air brake system pressure (700P): check for leaks in the airline and confirm pressure builds correctly on startup
  • Brake drums and discs for scoring or uneven wear

Do not defer brake maintenance. On a fully loaded commercial truck, worn brakes are a fleet liability, not just a mechanical inconvenience.

4. Tyres

UAE summer road surfaces regularly exceed 60°C. Underinflated tyres on hot tarmac are one of the most common causes of commercial vehicle blowouts, and blowouts on a loaded truck at highway speed are serious incidents.

Check:

  • Tyre pressure should always be checked cold, before the first run of the day. Increase in increments as recommended by your tyre manufacturer for summer operation.n
  • Tread depth UAE regulations require a minimum of 1.6mm; replace anything approaching this.
  • Sidewall condition: look for bulges, cuts, or cracking from UV exposure
  • Spare tyre pressure and condition, a flat spare on a summer breakdown, add hours to a bad day

Rotate tyres if the front-to-rear wear difference is significant. On trucks that do consistent intercity runs, rear tyre wear accelerates under load.

5. Battery

Heat kills batteries faster than cold. A battery that performs adequately in winter can fail by July in the UAE. Commercial truck batteries work harder in summer, as air conditioning draws continuous power while the alternator is already managing high engine temperatures.

Check:

  • Battery terminals for corrosion, clean with a wire brush if necessary
  • Voltage under load: a healthy 12V battery should hold above 12.4V at rest and above 9.6V under cranking load
  • Battery age: Most commercial vehicle batteries last 2 to 3 years in UAE conditions. If yours is approaching this, replace it proactively rather than reactively

6. Air Conditioning

Your drivers spend long hours in these trucks. A failed AC in a UAE summer is a health and safety issue, not a comfort one.

Check:

  • Refrigerant level low refrigerant is the most common cause of poor cooling
  • A clogged cabin filter reduces airflow significantly; replace every 6 months in dusty UAE conditions
  • Condenser unit for dust and debris blockage: clean externally with compressed air
  • Compressor belt condition and tension

7. Air Filters

Dust and sand in the UAE atmosphere are relentless on air filtration systems. A clogged air filter reduces engine efficiency, increases fuel consumption, and, in severe cases, causes engine damage.

Check:

  • Engine air filter inspect monthly in summer, replace when visibly clogged or at the manufacturer-specified interval.
  • Cabin air filter as above.
  • Turbo inlet hoses (700P) for cracks or loose connections that allow unfiltered air into the engine.

Running through this checklist yourself covers the basics. But the items that matter most, cooling system integrity, brake system condition, and air brake pressure, require trained technicians and the right equipment to assess properly.

Qingling’s authorized service center at Al Quoz Industrial Area 3, Dubai, is open for maintenance and repair bookings for all three models: the 100P, the KV100, and the 700P. Technicians use only genuine Qingling parts and follow manufacturer service intervals so your warranty stays intact and your trucks stay on the road.
